Brief Overview of Chocolate Bar Products

Chocolate as a consumption product has always been perceived as an affordable luxury. It is a product that is related to romance as well as celebrations. Chocolate is said to be a processed food which is said to be produced from a seed extracted from Theobroma cacao tree which is Tropical by nature. Cacao is said to be cultivated from the last 3 millennia in South America, North American Central America along with Mexico. The earliest it has been used is around 1100 BC. History has it that the Mesoamerican community used to have chocolate oriented beverages on a routine basis which also included Aztecs who used to use chocolate beverage and convert it into bitter water. It was used after fermentation in order to develop the flavour since it has an intense bitter taste. The beans are said to be dried and cleaned followed by roasting and then it is left to have a production of cacao nibs. They are further grounded to form cocoa mass which is said to be pure chocolate in raw form. It is liquefied and then moulded with necessary ingredients to form chocolate liquor. It is further processed to cocoa butter and cocoa solids. When it comes to the unsweetened baking chocolate also known as bitter chocolate it is said to contain cocoa butter and cocoa chocolate in varying proportions. However, mainly the chocolate that is consumed today is said to be sweet chocolate which is a combination of sugar, fat, cocoa butter and cocoa solids. When it comes to the milk chocolate which is said to be a sweet chocolate entails condensed milk or milk powder. White chocolate is said to lack cocoa solids but has milk, sugar, cocoa butter etc.

Hence in the year of 2000-2001, it was revealed that the cocoa production in Côte d'Ivoire entailed child slave labour oriented companies of chocolate companies, governments and consumers reeling. When it comes to United States, legislation was passed that made it mandatory that the FDA establish rules, policies and standards to ensure that the companies are encouraged to prove the fact that they are free of child lab or issues when it comes to the production of cocoa and FDA could label them as slave- labour free company. Cadbury faced a tough time considering the fact that whenever consumers thought of chocolate the top of the mind product was Cadbury. However, Cadbury was known to be associated with religious traditions when it comes to the practices of the company and since its inception it had ensured that their workers are taken care of and the practices are such that are environment friendly which includes safety for all its stakeholders since 1908.
