“Love the Way You Lie”

The title says it all. Marshall Mathers, more commonly known as Eminem, released a song called “Love the Way You Lie” that captures the nature of troubled and obnoxious relationships that many of us experience in life. The song was released in 2010 and was part Eminem's latest album Recovery. Being a mid-beat hip hop and rap song, Eminem once again succeeded in living up to the expectation of producing a song that has a story behind it. From the onset, the song narrates a story about two individuals in an abusive relationship and creates the image of doubt that exists in the mind of the man. The song contains emotions that neither of the two is able to understand. The song has ably captured the audiences' minds by the use of piano in the intro. This has left an impact and created a stronger sense of connection that people who have experienced or are going through the same can feel. “Love the Way You Lie” leaves the listeners feeling compelled to question their ideals of love and even the very existence of the emotion.

From the beginning, the lyrics pose the question circling in the mind of the man as to why does he hurt the woman he loves. It has been often seen that people in an offensive relationship are unaware of reasons why their bond is the way it is even though they love each other. This is evident from the lyrics; “I can't tell you what it really is; I can only tell you what it feels like” (Alex Da Kid, lines 1-2).
