Executive Summary

Time is perceived in a different way but its value is common to all of us. This report deals with the time management techniques that I have applied in order to improve my personal and professional life. I identified my personal development objective after I did audit of myself. Thereafter, I came to know that my future will be negatively affected if I don't improve my time management skills. In order to improve my time management skills it was essential that I should first know that where I am wasting my time. After that I applied various theories to deal with my time robbers. The principles like 80/20 and pickle jar theory have improved my life and behavior, although initially it was very difficult to implement them. This report also identifies the changes in my behavior after I applied some time management principles and techniques.

1. Introduction

1.1 Identifying Objective

I had never thought before to utilize time management skills in my life. I had even not recognized before that I am not managing my time well until I attended my first class of personal and professional development in which our module leader handed over personal effectiveness competency audit list to each of us to determine which is our weak area is. During that first class I thought for the first time that how I have been managing my personal and professional life over the years. I thought of some past events in which I had faced problems in managing my time. I also found that I always tend to Procrastinate things, like I worked for the assignments on last day before the deadline. Similarly, I prepared for the examinations during the last week before the examinations. I then recognized that due to improper management of time I have always experienced tension and anxiety. This invoked a strong desire in me to take some strong decisions to improve and enhance my time management skills.

1.2 Significance of time management

Time management is the process of utilizing the time in such a way that a large number of tasks are done in the specific time available. Time management is directly related to ones success in all spheres of life, whether personal or professional (Croft, 1996, p.9). Time management is mainly the process of managing your life in such way that you are in proper control of it. As I have mentioned earlier that previously I was unable to manage my time properly but now I have realized that we all have got same time available.
