Introduction

Ideology is basically defined as a combination of ideas that make up goals and expectations. Ideology is basically referred to as a comprehensive vision and also represents the various ways of looking at things with different perspectives. It can also be described as a set of different ideas by the dominating class of the society and which may represent the entire members of the society. The primary objective of the ideology is to make positive changes in the society through a systematic and normative thought process. The ideology assumptions often serve as the basis of certain class or group of the society. Ideology also helps to justify certain disciplines of the society which go unquestioned.

The paper will include the ways the ideological assumption of the society are represented in the TV show Modern Family and what class of the society benefits the most from the ideological representation and assumptions

The TV show Modern Family promotes and encourages gender roles and stereotypes for women which portray a very negative image of the women living in the society of America.

Synopsis of modern family

The TV show Modern Family was created in the year 2009 and is one of the most successful award winning Sit Com in America. The show is based on three families which interact and communicate with each other on daily basis. The concept of modern family is based on the traditional family and also deals with homo sexual couples and a mixed marriage. Since all the three families in the show are related to each other, the TV show Modern Family can be referred to as Modern in its own way. The show is a comprehensive combination of many traditional and new elements which the cast and crew have tried to communicate with the audience.

Ideological representation in the text

As discussed in the thesis statement and in contrast to the name of the show, modern family has promoted all kinds of stereotypes of women and has encouraged the various kinds of gender roles. This has weakened the stance and position of women in the society.

Argument

If we clearly observe the season of modern family, we will examine that the producers and the cast of modern family have tried their level best to communicate and promote the innovative idea of the family and their beliefs. The sitcom is basically based on patriarchal structures and has developed many traditional ideologies within each family of the show. The show has shown and portrayed the liberal homo sexual couple which has clearly rejected the norms and values of the traditional family all across the region (Nora, 2008)

In The episode “two monkeys and a panda” the couple Mitchell and Cameron's have named their daughter with a hyphen which has proved that they reject the patriarchal ideas and values (Modern family, 2011)
