Medical Marijuana

Introduction

Marijuana is one of the most popular drugs in United States of America. Its botanical name is Cannabis, used by a million people, across the globe, since ages. In the early ages of 20th century, the drug was classified as illegal by State laws of many countries. It is not long enough that the use of marijuana for medical assistance is being promoted and practiced in the United States of America.

Marijuana constitutes of dried parts of a plant known as 'Cannabis Sativa', and it is an illegal drug if taken frequently. In ancient times, this drug was mainly a substance to enjoy pure ecstasy. Medical marijuana is effectively working for many diseases but it is still counted as a means of entertainment.

In the United States of America, use of marijuana is prescribed for labor pain, nausea and various other treatments (Earleywine, p. 111). The usage of marijuana is legal only when prescribed by doctors, and it is not smoked in public places. Marijuana is legal only in conditions for its medical use otherwise it abusive usage is illegal.

People usually think consumption of drugs and toxic substances makes a person to lose his attention and can be one of the reasons of accidents and injuries. Medical marijuana in this matter is the safest drug when compared with other toxic substances.

Legalizing Medical Marijuana

Legalizing marijuana is a controversial topic nowadays. The issue is protested and supported since two decades now but using medical marijuana and making its availability legal is yet to decide. Federal officers have also break into dispensaries for supplying cannabinoids to the patients.

The use of Medical marijuana has surged in USA in many of the states today. California was the first state in USA to legalize the use of medical marijuana, and by the year 2010, Alaska, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Maryland, and many other states have also allowed the use of marijuana for medical purpose (Morgan, p. 9). There are almost fifteen states that have legalized medical marijuana and many more are still undergoing the process.

In the 112th Congress, an H.R 1983 Medical Marijuana Protection Act was passed in order to reschedule the use of marijuana and medical marijuana according to the laws of different States. The bill had only four representatives supporting the cause of protecting the users and suppliers of medical marijuana.

Another issue calls for either legalizing marijuana or approves its use within a limit. Legalizing marijuana is the assumption where using, selling and manufacturing of this substance should be made legal by the State. Another suggestion is where anybody found using, selling or manufacturing marijuana would be less punished. Government is delaying the matter of legalizing medical marijuana to avoid protests against the open usage of drugs.

I believe medical marijuana should be made legal for the sake of its medical usage only. There are many reasons to go against legalization of medical marijuana but according to my point of view medical use of marijuana is the main reason that can justify my opinion. Marijuana is ...
