Microsoft's Windows 8 and the Competition

Introduction

In comparison with other global industrial giants, Microsoft is quite literally very young; it was founded in 1975 and has yet to grow out of its thirties. Compared to other big shots, which have been in business for well over fifty years, one must admit that Microsoft has done quite well for itself. However, its existence is perceived as a matter of course, much like the existence of transport, broadcasting, healthcare, utilities and entertainment. For this reason alone, many cannot imagine a world without the existence of the organization. It is that popular.

The organization boasts a multitude of important departments, primarily of which, the most successful has been research and development. The financing for the said department is naturally self sufficient, as much of its research finds its way into consumer products (Ladendorf, 2012). Despite the difficult economic situation of recent times, the company continues to increase. In the 2010 fiscal year, Microsoft spent $9.5 billion just to develop competitive and modern computer technology.

To the untrained eye, such an amount might seem drastic, but it is necessary for the company's survival. Furthermore, it is necessary to implement and spread the business model, the mission statement and the purpose of the organization in happenings of the staff, processes, production and to also make sure the consumer base believes in the words too. Representatives are quoted time and time again as saying, “Our purpose is to give back to the people, to businesses and to the entire world. We aim to help the world realize their potential by providing them with software to solve their problems,” (www.microsoft.com).

Microsoft itself has become an impressive example of realizing the potential of both businesses and individuals. It is not only the owner of one of the most expensive but it is also the indisputable market leader in the areas of access to information, integrated communications, ERP-system for manufacturing enterprises and midrange infrastructure applications for integration projects. Bill Gates, founder of Microsoft, the permanent head of the corporation and chairman of the board of directors, has become a legend of world business. Many businessmen quite literally idolize the man and aspire to become him, reach the level of success he maintains and to relish the riches the man has worked more than half of his life to acquire (Schwartz, 1999).

With that being said, Microsoft is one of the main generators of growth. Over the years, Microsoft has been working on a single platform, part of which would not only solve the problems of the client business, but also ideally be integrated with each other, providing almost everything necessary for the implementation of “electronic nervous system” of the enterprise. Microsoft's software allows a modern facility to set a corporate standard for software and sticks to it, thus avoiding unnecessary weight problems, and working with common data standards as the corporate network and the Internet.
