Model of Berry

In the two-dimensional model of Berry (1974, 1980) for the first time it is proposed to treat the identity and cultural integration of immigrants that of the host culture as factors independent, rather than as extremes of a continuum. `The main point is that the identity immigrant and host are not the opposite of a single dimension, but are two processes that one develops separately along orthogonal dimensions (Kenneth, 1998).

According to the model of Berry (1974, 1980) the immigrants who have settled in a host society are confronted with two fundamental problems. The first is whether the culture of the decider immigrants is of value and if it goes or not maintained. The second, instead, has to do with the desirability of contact intergroup must, that is, whether the relationship with the community host will look or avoided. This gives rise to two dimensions:

•It is important to have relationships with other group

Intersection of these two dimensions spring four strategies of acculturation of Two-dimensional model of the guidelines acculturation of immigrants. It is important to maintain its cultural identity and their characteristics and have relations with other groups.
