Motivation and Reward System

Introduction

In organizations, reward systems are designed as an insurance plan to secure and protect the health of employees against any work-related illness or injury. Such insurance is generally based on fixed medical charges in addition to proxy of that amount of income, which was owned to the employee, if that person did not work during illness or injury. For instance, a house painting company's employee fell off the ladder while working and injured his back. The compensation insurance for company's employees will pay a certain percentage of the medical bills due on the employee. Moreover, the company management will also compensate the employee for his lost income while he was on a month leave from work to heal from injuries.

Discussion

Typically, reward systems are designed in a manner, which can benefit an employee along with his family members and these reward systems may vary across different companies and organizations. According to Reingold (2008), motivation of all employees is directly affected by the reward system, which can be composed of both tangible as well as intangible benefits to keep employees motivated and attractive towards the job. In some cases, compensation for employees can cover chronic illness or occupational disease that can occur as an incident at workplace. For instance, there are certain jobs that require employees to operate machines or computers for a prolonged period and involve enormous physical strength. In that case, function or strength of their arms may deteriorate and turn into a disease named carpal tunnel syndrome. There are few compensation plans for employees that cover medical treatment for such chronic illness (Reingold, 2008).
