Introduction

The Wizard of Oz is one of the legendary musicals that was released by MGM in 1939. The movie was directed by Victor Fleming, and is an Academy Award winner for the best picture of the year and is based on a classic children's novel written by Frank Baum in Chicago 1900. (Aljean Harmetz. 1977) Moreover, the songs of the movie gained a lot of popularity and also won an Oscar for the best song of the year. (Fordin, Hugh.1996)

The theme of movie is based on some very intriguing yet pressing issues such as the feeling of power or powerlessness, the line “there's no place like home” illustrating how precious one's home is to them and finally the two sides of human nature; the good emancipating from the good witch while at the same time, the evil witch representing the source of all bad deeds.

Plot

The movie, Wizard of Oz revolves around the life and the overactive imagination of a young teenage girl; Dorothy Gale living in the city of Kansas and how she day dreams about going over the rainbow. One day her house is hit by a tornado and she along with her dog Toto, is swept into the beautiful, magical yet dangerous Land of Oz Here, she unknowingly ends up killing the wicked witch. When the wicked witch of the west comes to know about this, she threatens to kill Dorothy. However, the good witch of the north; Glinda helps her by giving a pair of enchanted red slippers to protect her against the wicked witch, at the same time advising her to see the wizard of Oz in the Emerald City, to help her get back home.
