Introduction

Mrs. Dalloway was published in 1925, written by Virginia Woolf's. It was one of the best sellers in United States and Britain due to its typical novelist style. It was most studied book due to, its context which, which attracts the readers. The novel explains the inner lives of people. It explains the day of June 1923, when people were living their peaceful life, and the air was calm. These people had recently suffered from the World War 1, and it has become difficult for them to forget the bitter incidence they have seen (Joyes, 2008).

Brief Overview

This novel reflects people's life as they spend most of their time in regrets, memories and hope that everything will get better. The novel characters also portray the same as to how things happen and how they change. Most of the characters as mentioned in the novel have thoughts in their mind regarding different situations. They have different questions in their mind regarding life and the consequences prevailing.

The novel is told from the viewpoint of invisible narrator. Most characters as displayed in the novel are financially well off, and they spend their leisure time with all the luxuries. Apart from having all the luxuries they are still unhappy with their life, and they have questions regarding the internal and external environments. These questions don't make them happy, and their life is being affected by it. Keeping in mind the other novels from the sane author sexuality is discussed in this novel, as several characters describe their feelings of love and relationship (Joyes, 2008).

Character Analysis

Clarissa Dalloway

The novel describes Clarissa Dalloway who hosts a social gathering. In order to describe the events of daily life spent in the streets of London. Clarissa went to buy flowers where she meets the love of her life after a long time, the adventurer Peter Walsh, who returned to London after a long journey. Memories came in her mind as she remembered her youth time, the disappointment and regret because Clarissa left Peter to marry the future deputy Richard Dalloway. The action is based on the moods of the characters whose emotions are the common thread of the plot (Lord, 1923).

It starts from here; Virginia Woolf describes places, about the historical context of the past by examining the consciences of the characters. There are two very important male characters; including Virginia Woolf also explores her inner life (Lord, 1923).

Peter Walsh

Peter Walsh, Clarissa's first love, which crystallizes all her sorrow. She remembers old times personify the romance, adventure, the opposite of her husband that it was chosen to ensure a place in polite society. Clarissa's husband, Richard, have meetings and lunches, and their daughter Elizabeth has similar plans herself.
