National Museum of American History

Introduction

Museums are considered of great importance, it is a place where we can relate to our histories. Museums can have different themes; it depends on the mission related to the museum. The museum that I have visited is the National Museum of American History. The museum is of great importance. It is one of the few old museums present in the country. The National Museum of American History was opened during the starting of the year 1964. The name of the museum was related to the history and technology at that time. The museum opened its door at the sixth Smithsonian building at the National Mall. The museum soon gained its reputation as a National Historic Landmark. One another great importance to this museum is that in the year 1955, President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed the bill of $36 million for the installation of the museum. Some of the great architects of that time like McKim and Mead were the in charge of the design and construction. The area covered by the museum was about the 750,000. During 1980's, the name of the museum was changed to as National Museum of American history; this was done in order to relate the name of the museum towards the American history so that the mission of the museum can be justified.

Museum's Specifications

This museum gained the importance from the American officials and public from the very beginning. The renovation of the building took place many times to improve its presentation and to enhance its structure. This museum contains many of the specifications which not only reflects the experience of the American people but also represents the American history details. In the year 2008 the building completed its renovation of worth $85 million. This was a huge amount for the renovation purpose, but the results were far better. Millions o people had already visited the museum and still hundreds of people visit the place to get the aroma of the American history (American Museum of Natural History, 2008).

The National Museum of American History's mission states that the infinite richness and complexity of the history of the American people should remain highlighted to the upcoming generation. This is only possible by bringing forward the rigorous research, incomparable collections and dynamic public reach. The museum currently is preserving more than 3 million of the artifacts. The museum contains the artifacts from the war of independence to the present day.

The museum has been renovated in such a way that it is providing the visitors with such an experience that is different from many of the other museums. The price of Freedom is the area that is dealing with the surveys of the United States military conflicts and many of the key American history related to war are examined by this area. Another area which is interesting in the gallery is related to the transportation that is used by the American people. The transportation related collection is ranging ...
