Introduction

It is imperative to understand what the term neonatal means the time immediately after birth, it can be the first week or the first month. This term is used with reference to the human infants or newborns. The term Neonatal transfer is another important term with reference to the medical procedure; this is used to describe the care and examination, like the medical attention, allocation of cots or rooms or any other related services. The focus is on the newborns / infants that are either premature or weak. There are special rooms, cots and even ambulances to help the transfer of these infants from one hospital to another. These kinds of newborns require extra ordinary attention and care.

It is common in infants / newborns to develop conditions that require them to be kept in the neonatal care units depending on the intensity of the condition. This period is one of stress for the new parents and needs a lot of emotional care by the people around them.

What kind of Neonatal attention an infant requires is highly dependent on his / her condition? It may be for as minimum timing as few minutes and can last for hours or days and may be even weeks. This is highly dependent on the state of the newborn, and the time it takes his / her condition to be stable and improved. The Neonatal attention and care are commonly present in all the health care facilities and maternity wards. These include the I.C.U (Intensive Care Unit) and the high dependency attention and care which is comprise of the transportation process and other care activities. An important part of this system is the presence of surgery units uniquely designed for the newborns in case of any emergencies.

There are three types of care that are provided to the newborns. All those infants or newborns that cannot be kept at home and taken care of by their mothers are kept in the Special care (SC) units in the hospitals. The babies that require or those who get exceptional care; are the ones that need to get their heart rate and breathing observe. They are given the feed with the help of a tube and require attention for the care of jaundice or require more oxygen.
