New Age

Introduction

Many individuals in many decades have dedicated their time in finding the answers to many mysteries regarding their existence. With the passage of time, humans have found many ways of how to find the answers to the mysteries behind their existence. Some find these answers though religion. Some find these answers through science. Whereas some believe that such questions do not need to be answered at all. However, many theories, movements and ideologies have been presented in the past that captures the feelings of humans regarding this aspect. However, one of the most famous is the movement of “new age”.

Discussion

Introduced in the 20th century's second half, the New Age highlights the western spiritual concepts and ideologies. The fundamentals of the theory however explain and discuss the status of both Western and Eastern, metaphysical and spiritual and patterns, traditions and believe. The theory proposed by the movement further infuses these traditional values with the influences from motivational psychology and self-help, quantum physics, holistic health, consciousness research and parapsychology (Heelas, pp.60).

"New Age" in the Past

The origin and foundation of this movement was inspired by the fields' of alchemy and Medieval astrology. The movement had its inspiration from writings of Paracelsus, mysticism in 18th century that includes Emanuel Swedenborg, and also form the believes in the animal magnetism proposed by Franz Mesmer. The authors and esotericists in 19th and 20th centuries, including Godfrey Higgins, Helena Blavatsky and Eliphas Levi, stated various specific cosmologies, histories, and many of the fundamental philosophical prespectives, which left their signature on the movement.

The basic aims behind the movement were to establish a spirituality independent from any borders, limitations and confining dogmas. The theory or movement promotes a holistic worldwide view that emphasizes and focuses on the interrelation of the Spirit, the Mind and the Body. The movement further states that there exist a form of unity and monism throughout the entire universe. Hence, it will be fair to say that the movement proposes and attempts to establish a unique and interesting worldview that fuses together the spirituality and science. This is the reason why the movement embraces and includes various different forms and branches of the mainstream and fringe sciences and explores them to find the answers to the existence of humans.
