Cultural, social and technological changes are the fundamental causes behind the changing nature of media. An accelerated growth of media can be seen in the shape of convergence and manifestation of media along with the content it received from different platforms which are not always intended for media but are media0like content. Services of ne communication and new media are not mature yet and passing through a transitional phase of development. Their attributes and uses along with the opportunities and dangers are linked with them are not completely discovered yet. Few definitions for new media only focus upon the technologies used by computers while few others emphasize upon the context, content, presentation and cultural forms in which these technologies are used.

The sense of “new” in new media comprises many ideological facets, for example, the new is better, it contains fascinating and exhilarating meanings. It has some cutting edge and it is the place that provides opportunities to the people who think ahead. This association of “new” is also attached with the new media. The new media, just like before, come into view with new claims, expectations that they will provide enhanced productivity and opportunities for education.

All media were once new media, as for the generation of today's world would not find any difficulty to name the old media for example type writer, record albums, eight track magnetic tapes, gramophone etc. which are now replaced by computers, CDs, DVDs, mobile phones etc. even the new forms of old media, that are called media, are also changing their nature more frequently than ever. Here is a need to know the circumstances in which traditional media transformed itself into the new media:

Old media or the existing one was unable to provide adequate technological, cultural and social services.

Such changes are evolved in old media due to technological changes that old concepts are no longer valid or they need revisions and reformulation.

New facets of media are emerged, foe new concepts and new notions.

The legislations and dogmatic frameworks applied to the media do not match the pace of change and developments and require modifications and modernization.

The term new media was used to indicate satellite television (cable), VCR, teletext and video text. In today's world it is applied to social media, blogs, SMS and other comparatively new communication technologies. In short, new media is applied precisely to the digital and convergent media. It includes all those means of communication, representation and knowledge (i.e. media), in which we find the digitalization of the signal and its content that possess dimensions of multimodality and interactivity. This definition is comprehensive and inclusive of everything from the mobile phone to digital television and also embracing game consoles and the Internet.
