Nigerian Community

Introduction

The concept of community emerged when different communities started living together, but had their own sets of beliefs and values. People practiced their own religion and were able to live according to their own set of rules. Every country existed with multi communities and religions. This gave rise to the ethno-religious conflicts. Some countries were able to handle these conflicts in a very effective way; however, some countries were unable to handle these conflicts and suffered a lot due to these conflicts. Fierce conflicts existed in India between the Hindus and Muslims, and the result was a separate country for the Muslims (Soyinka, pp. 25). The same conflict exists in Nigeria. Nigeria has a history of conflicts which involves conflicts on religion and ethnicity. A vast tussle existed between Islam and Christianity.

Nigeria is known for the ethnic conflicts since the independence of the country. These conflicts have caused the country to lose lives of millions of people. It has also damaged the materials of the country and has also damaged the psychological process of human beings. The country has also experienced some fantastic times. This includes the role of education. Education has improved the condition of the country, though it is still a poor African country. The conditions have improved as to what they were before knowledge and education. This paper will examine and analyze the ethno-religious conflicts and will also highlight the importance of education in avoiding these conflicts within communities and in unifying the community (Adichie, pp. 11).

Conflicts in the community

The conflicts in the community are created when different communities live together, but when peace does not prevail. People are not ready to accept the religion of the other group nor do they give respect to the other religion. The mixing of cultures is not liked by the majority of the population due to which they get involved in conflicts. When a person does not respect the other person's religion, he has no right to ask people to respect his religion. This is where conflicts start, because people do not respect other's religion, but wants the others to respect their religion. Christians and Muslims are two completely different religions, but they do not respect each other's religion; hence, a continual conflict exists between them.

Nigeria has been a multiethnic nation state which is why the ethnicity problem exists in the country up till now. Due to the increase in the ethnic and religious conflict, in the country, many ethnic militias have been formed (Adichie, pp. 16). A couple of them include; the Bakassi Boys, O' dua People Congress (OPC), etc. These ethnic militias are on a rise in the country because a huge number of communities live in Nigeria and to deal with this issue they need someone who can handle this issue. This violent nature of the conflicts should be eliminated from the nature as they take harmful forms.
