Motivation is defined as that which affects us to accomplish and is apparent in sub fields such as social, personality, development, industrial-organizational, experimental, cognition and neuropsychology. One decisive subject in the field of motivation centres on naming the fundamental causes for why an individual is prompted to act in a sure manner. Present-day examples of intrinsic motivation alter to the degree to which they search the immanent receive of concern and the purpose it brings in self-acting demeanour. Nevertheless, all views admit the impact of diverse situational and individual components on involvement of intrinsic motivation (Bandura, 24). The consolidation of these present-day examples with search on cognitive assessment, emotion, and self-regulation will further elevate the pertinence of intrinsic motivation inquiry to work, emotional, education and mental health (Covington, 56).

In the case of Susan Sharp, the level of motivation is very low. As the theory points out, she is exposed to factors that actually reduce the level of motivation. Intrinsic motivation is the class of motivation qualified by the feel of involvement and use. The reward for intrinsic motivation is in the execution of the action instead of what it results in. Intrinsically motivated conducts are asserted by the self-generated beliefs that come with the action (Dweck, 51). Actions that the patient prefer and really like said to be motivated intrinsically. The construct of intrinsically motivation is applied to depict the entire array of conducts that are volitionally acted out in the absence of eventualities of advantage or penalty. The prototypal illustration of intrinsic motivation is a child at play. All these actions call for the effort and energy, yet the advantages are completely intrinsic to the actions. (Eccles).

The balance to intrinsic motivation, that is, the sort of motivation that energize and directs other human activities, is referred to as extrinsic motivation. This type of motivation is characterized by an instrumentality between the behaviours and some separable consequence. The classic example of extrinsic motivation is doing an activity for a reward. In that case, the person is not doing the activity because the activity itself is interesting and enjoyable but rather because doing the activity allows the person to earn the reward (Elliot). In Susan's case, the possible sources of stress are the various daily problems she goes through. Her present medical condition has contributed a lot to elevation of stress in her life. Being diagnosed with diabetes is no death sentence. However, the requirements of the treatment demands a lot that piles up a lot of stress in her life (Heckhausen).

Motivation is a hypothetical construct, meaning that it is an abstraction, not an overt entity that can be seen with the eyes. Although it is not observable in and of itself, motivation does have direct links to observable behaviour (Selye). That is, motivation cannot be observed, but its effects may be observed. Specifically, one infers motivation from observing the movement of individuals. Such movement often appears to be systematic, rather than random, and the force that impels and ...
