Introduction

The areas of practice, which I chose is general nursing. It is the branch of nursing, which pertains to the healthcare of adults. The rapid technological development in the area of health and universal expansion of education in the last 20 years has led huge health and demographic changes. One of the best indicators of these changes is focused on reducing progressive fertility and the parallel rise life expectancy. Quality health care for adults includes a focus on health promotion and health maintenance (Faugier 2002, pp. 315-320). Providers who exhibit this focus will provide clear information and answer questions about the health. There are problems, which pertain to underdevelopment, infections and deficiency while other, acquire chronic progressive force such as cancers, accidents and mental health problems. These are associated with lifestyles and economic development of a country in recent times. In addition, general nurses provide information on prevention of illnesses and injuries as well as information to foster a healthy life, healthy development, and prevention of behaviours that place the health of an adult at risk. This information is increasingly being offered via a list of websites.

NHS Knowledge and Skills Framework

It has been more than 20 years, since the significant changes in the provision of professional nurses and their education in the United Kingdom took place. In addition, there have been a number of changes in the healthcare policies and their implementation. One of the most significant outcomes of the educational development in the area of healthcare is the knowledge, skills, and competencies, which qualified nurses acquired in the workplace. Therefore, it is essential for qualified nurses to gain knowledge and skills during their training and to use these to provide better patient care (Department of Health 2004, pp. 63-101).

The knowledge and skills, according to the NHS framework, acquired during the education program are as below (Sofarelli 1998, pp. 201-207):

Ability to work in an environment, which requires professionalism, ethical considerations, and regulatory compliance. In addition, I acquired the ability to recognize and respond to ethical or moral issues in the routine practice.

Ability to perform in a way, which incorporates tolerance, leniency, and care, to ensure that individuals' rights and desires remain intact.

Ability to inform, assist, support and promote healthcare and relief to those people, groups or communities, who suffer from poor health, disorders, and death.

Ability to remain conscious about the roles, tasks, and responsibilities of a nurse.

Ability to meet the varied needs of patients by adjusting the role. Furthermore, I acquired the ability to confront existing systems to serve the patients.

Ability to recognize the responsibility for self-learning and development, with the help of self-assessment to identify areas for improvement in the performance and quality of services.

Nursing Skills and Clinical Decision-Making
