Abstract

This research report is based on "Obesity" which is one of the most severe health issues. The rate of obesity is increasing so rapidly that government and healthcare organizations are found unable to control it. The main cause of obesity is lack of balanced diet and physical activities. The report has also highlighted the consequences of obesity. Both Adults and children are facing this deadly disease and it is the leading cause of mortality and morbidity especially in United States of America and some parts of Europe. Every individual needs to take care of his or her diet quality and quantity for quality of life.

Obesity

Introduction

An excessive amount of fat in a human body is known as obesity. The obesity can be calculated with an equation of body mass index (BMI) that is weight in kilograms divided by height in meter square. If BMI of an adult is greater than 30.0 it signifies that he or she is overweight and is about to get obese. An individual who has been diagnosed of obesity have risks of 5 major diseases: hypercholesterolemia, hypertension, CHD, Stroke and type 2 diabetes mellitus. There were few cases in which the major cause of obesity was due to the genes, endocrine disorders and medications. An obese individual has to use greater level of energy as compared to a thin individual because an obese individual has to maintain an equivalent energy level to manage the increased body mass. Some people get obese even though they have little food; this is mainly due their slow metabolism process. Diet management and physical exercises are the two main ways for treatment of obesity. According to the research conducted by Center for Disease Control and Prevention more than 60% of children and adults in the United States are overweight and about 30% are obese. Obesity is rising on a larger scale due to the high intake of junk and fast foods along with carbonated drinks.

Discussion

One of the leading causes of mortality in most of the developing and developed countries of the world is Obesity that is increasing its prevalence in children and adults. The authorities view obesity as one of the most ruthless public health issues of the 21st century (Colditz et.al, 1995). The developed countries are facing obesity in its population on a larger scale as compared to developing and under-developing countries. By minimizing the consumption of energy dense foods on can get rid of this deadly disease, which is helping in production of useless sugars and fats in body (Van, 1985). The use of dietary fiber and anti obesity drugs can be helpful in limiting the appetite and will minimize the absorption of fat. There are certain newly introduced surgical procedures that can help an individual in getting rid of extra fat, but it is done only in severe cases only it is known as liposuction.
