Number of Cars, Trucks Run by Diesel Imported to Oman
The imports in Oman decreased from 991.90 million OMR in October of 2012 from 1106 million OMR in September of 2012. Oman relies heavily on its vehicle imports to fulfill its domestic needs. According to the National Statistics; Oman is one of the biggest importers of vehicles in the world.
Statistics
From the period between 2004 -2012, Oman's vehicle imports averaged to 569.25 million OMR. The vehicle imports of Oman reached their long time high of 1265.30 million OMR in July of 2012. The lowest number of vehicle imports in Oman was recorded at 242.50 million OMR in the year 2005.
The major imports of Oman include commercial vehicles, luxury vehicles, heavy machine operated vehicles and so forth. In the present infrastructure, the country relies on its vehicle imports to cater its domestic needs. Oman's main import partners are Japan, China, India, Saudi Arabia and France. Biggest Buyers of Vehicles in Oman
Due to a developing economy, both the government and the private sector are importers of vehicles in Oman. The government needs to import vehicles for public transportation, its governmental operations while the private sector involves major corporations and private owners.
Vehicle Purchase Tenders
Because the manufacturing sector of the country is not stable and cannot cater its domestic needs. The government regularly issues vehicle purchase tenders. Most vehicle purchase tenders are pursued by private organizations and institutions i.e. hospitals, schools, organizations etc. Oman's government also makes use of such tenders to import diesel run vehicles for public transportation.

According to the Sultanate of Oman's Ministry of Commerce & Industry; a number of multi-nationals initiate their operations in the country. Construction companies i.e. Emaar have opened up their operations in the region and continue to thrive due to a decent law and order situation.
