Approaches to Management

According to Brews & Hunt (1999), in the past 50 years, interest in the administration has developed strongly and researchers and management theorists have developed a number of approaches to explain the concepts and theories of this.

Decision making may seem very important and indeed it is, but the administration is much more than decision making. But the decision can be a fairly easy matter if the goals are clear, if there is adequate information available. In fact managers employ very little time in making real decisions.

To do this systematically there are the activities of five general managers of different organizations and manages to reach the conclusion that none plays classical management functions (planning, organization, coordination and control), but develop other activities, which the management identified as the 10 administrative roles, which are sorted by:

Interpersonal roles:

Representative role: is to be representative of the organization in ceremonial and social duties.

Role of leader: is being “thinking head” of the organization.

Paper link is to relate the organization to its external environment.

Paper information:

Paper receiver: Receives information about the operation of a business.

Paper diffuser: transmits the information to their employees.

Paper spokesman: transmits the information to persons outside the organization.

Papers decision:

Entrepreneurial role: as director of the company.

Role responsible for managing disturbances.

Role of resource allocator.

Role of negotiator: with respect to dealing with other people or groups thereof.
