Introduction

Operations form the base of every organization, whether in manufacturing, service or non-profit industries. Logistics and supply chain management systems are known as significant organizational management strategies to improve and enhance an organization's operational efficiency. Today's environment is continuously changing and companies are building their competitive advantages based on their superior supply chains. While the Japanese companies have succeeded in the developing supply chains which have proved to be ideal for manufacturing companies, companies like Nissan, Ford etc. Efficient supply chain operations are essential not only for manufacturing companies but for every organization. It is a decisive point of their business and should be carried out with more and more perfection each time they review their performance considering the increasing focus and importance supply chain in attaining success, this paper studies the supply chain strategy and management of Walmart. The company is a maestro and is an inspiration for most supply chain managers across the globe. However, there are still some challenges faced by the company. The paper discusses the feats and a challenge related to supply chain, and presents a workable strategy to be followed. The purpose of this paper is to extent current knowledge of readers on the importance of Supply chain in achieving operational and overall other effectiveness.

Methodology

The methodology that is used for this research paper comprises of qualitative data collection method, and we are using secondary sources. Qualitative data is gathered through secondary information accumulation, which is based on previous renowned and well acknowledged articles, as well as current information on supply chain of Supermarts.

Supply Chain Management

Gullberg. M & Lundva, P. (2003) says that the Supply Chain Management (SMC) has no clear meaning. A literature review says that it has emerged as an expression rather in the literature related to business which is usually used to integrate nearly everything in the fields of logistics and business marketing today (Pp. 10). The Supply Chain management is also considered as an integrated method, idea, a belief, a structure, a procedure, a plan, and morale. The report says that it is hard to take hold of the phenomenon actually is.

The report by Gullberg, M & Lundva, P. (2003) further describes the function in a supply chain which includes the performance of label marketing stream. A number of flows move onward from beginning to end of the channel these are usually described as the physical, ownership, and promotion (Pp. 07). At the same time, some of them move in a backward direction, which are referred as ordering and payment. There is also a condition when the flow moves simultaneously in the two directions alike; this is when cooperation, finance, risks and information are taken.
