Introduction

“Orange is The New Black” is memoir by Piper Kerman. The memoir begins with 1998, at that time; Kerman was a freelancer producer and living a good life with her boyfriend, Larry who was editor of magazine. One morning, two policemen reached their home. At the arrival of policemen, the thinking of Kerman was that they are here for apartment building matters. But the fact was that they are going to arrest Kerman on scheming of drug charges that are associated with her in trafficking drug rings many years before. When she was being arrested, friends and family members of Kerman were unaware of the history of her past regarding her crimes. After proving the crime on Kerman, she was held at federal correctional facility in Danbury. In that correctional facility this memoir was written (Israel, 2012). The findings of this memoir are sensitive, if in deep review of the criminal justice system done and considered that woman has to go through it.

“Orange is The New Black” is the memoir by Piper Kerman which she wrote after her spending at the Federal correctional facility at Connecticut. In the start of the book Kerman describes that it was 1998 and she was working as freelancer producer and she was living happily and carelessly with her boyfriend named Larry, who was an editor of the magazine. She wrote that in one morning there were to officers of police visiting their home. She thought they are here for some apartment building issue, but in fact police was there to arrest her for her crime she did long before. She also mentioned that at that time her friend and relatives are unaware of her crimes (Kerman, 2011). As consequences she spent eleven months in a correctional facility at Connecticut.
