The first article Organisational Design: Beyond the “Mafia” Model is written by Michael W. Stebbins and Abraham B. Shani. In this scholarly article, authors have clearly represented a picture of organized crime and happenings in the organisation with the help of Mafia model. Today, there is a lot of competition in each field and, organisational practitioners have to point out certain models to bring changes in the organisational management. The field of organisational design is vast because it helps to take certain decisions in a timely manner. Article discusses that when organisation works then it faces several challenges due to ethics, values and theories (1989). Article showed several examples of different organisations to point out these challenges and theories such as; toy company. Writers are contributing towards the organisational theory and organisational design and lack in other contributions such as writing work of other writers. There is the discussion of ABCE and MAPS models in order to provide a comprehensive knowledge that emerge from laboratory studies. There is the discussion of sociotechnical system approach, which lags behind the applications. The article also discusses the socio technical system of the school, which is the flexible design theory and, it is strongly based on the contingency approach, which focuses on the organisational choice rather than the organizing the idea. It ensures the quality of work with experiments and link with different groups and these processes are elaborate and multilevel. The article also identifies the combined approach and give details how to plan the work step by step and, aims that this model provide efficient results. In the end, article discusses that the model has the advantages over mafia model in several ways and, there are alternatives of mafia model. The article discusses that there is the strong need to overcome the challenges of Mafia model and, there should be an alternate of this model and, it is proved that the leading organisational models have the advantages over the mafia model.
