Thesis statement for this dissertation would be “social control in United Kingdom: A hybrid of power of mass media, popular culture and technology.”

Outline of the Study

We are living in an era of global change and businesses today has gone well beyond the simple process of selling and buying of a good or services. Technology advancement is one of an example of change, and to keep moving with the world it is necessary to be updated and align with the overall change. Today, businesses have advanced and transformed into multinational organizations that operate jointly from different countries and plan their activities well in advance.

On the other hand, mass media is a system which ensures international interaction through mass communication in which few means are used to reach multiple receivers. It is an efficient way of communication and creating awareness among people and educates the masses. Mass communication is traditionally linked with the newspaper, magazines, television, radio and social channels on which many people rely and are connected with.

However, popular culture is the entirety of ideas, culture, perspective, attitude, belief and other phenomena of a particular culture, especially western culture. Popular culture is heavily influenced by mass media, in which the collection of perspectives permeates the everyday lives of the society. Although, government is a defined form of mechanism which control societal issues and cultural matters; however, social control has always been a problem for the government and the authorities because every person exhibits unique characteristics.

Thus, achieving society's satisfaction becomes difficult because what makes one person happy is likely to make another completely dissatisfied. Hence, it is essential for the government policy makers to get the populace to be conventional on a single point or a certain manner of social behaviour which they think is going to be accepted by the majority and can be use as a template for the society. Therefore, to get the populace conform to the single point and to control the social behaviours of the participants technology, mass media and popular culture plays a vital role. This paper will identify how the power of the mass media, technology and culture can be used collaboratively to foster the social control in United Kingdom.

Background of the Study

This paper studies and identifies the influence of power of social control, technology and popular culture in creating a culture of the social control in United Kingdom.
