Chapter Number 3: Methodology

This section seeks to highlight the methods adopted for conduction of this research, including the procedure for collection of data and the method adopted for the analysis of results. Various aspects of the research methodology, including the research design, approach, instrument as well as the sample size would be presented in this section, thus presenting obvious idea about the method used for conducting research.

Research Design

As this research deal with the various means and methods of pain management, combined with the ideas presented with various authors and the mode of pain relief used by them. It is eminent to mention here that the study would not be based on practical experiments or direct observations, and thus qualitative method would be utilized to carry out secondary research, thus compiling and analyzing the views and ideas of various authors and presenting personal reflection and ideas on the same. The following paragraphs would focus on the various aspects of qualitative research and relevance if the adopted method for this research:

Qualitative research is one of the most widely used method of research, that does not only assist in presenting in depth analysis of the issues and concepts, but at the same time, it also plays an essential role in highlighting the philosophical aspects of various concepts and issues (Sutton et al, 2000, Pp: 141). It is essential to note that the although qualitative research is held in high esteem in all the fields of study, its importance and significance is amplified in the field of medicine, mainly because of its ability to address various complicated and complex questions and provide detailed account of the problems prevailing in the field. Various databases and work of pervious authors can be used to get information, which is then analyzed and interpreted in the detailed manner, thus presenting information regarding personal experiences of individuals and the medical technology used for finding solution to the issues.

The research mainly deals with the methods of pain management in cancer patients, and in order to get detailed account of the process it is essential to relate various aspects of the issue with the social as well as medical implications of the same (Usher, Smith, Murrell and Ellis, 2010, Pp: 91). Under these circumstances, qualitative research can be counted as the best method available for conducting the research, thus highlighting the various forms of pain management and at the same time, highlighting the various social as well as the medical issues leading to the creation of the situation.

Qualitative research is becoming increasing common and prominent in the medical health care and a large number of journals as well ...
