Introduction

Sexual orientation and attraction towards the children who haven't reached the age of maturity or puberty is known as pedophilia. The pedophiles are attracted towards the individuals who have been more aroused when they see or witness any children who are less than the age of 16. The paper discusses growing numbers of pedophiles in the prisons and the correctional systems and how the prisons can be effective in reducing the number of pedophiles in the prison. Thus helping the society to be free from the pedophiliac mindset and improve the mindset of the pedophiles who are involved in the criminal activities. This will eventually reduce the urge of the individuals who have been able unable to control the desires either willingly or either due to mental weakness and disability.

The number of pedophiles in the prisons is growing and the individuals have been becoming an alarming issue for the prisons. The number of pedophiles is increasing in the correctional facilities and the child molester population increased mainly during the 1988 and 1990 by 48%. Currently the number of sex offenders and child molesters in the state prison and correctional facilities are 43522. In some of the state prisons and correctional facilities one-third of the individuals have been sex offender and the rest which are two-thirds are the people who have committed the offences against the children by abusing them. The issue is bigger than the currently which is being faced by the prisons, although prison has their own problems but if the society is encapsulated the problem becomes bigger. The 80 percent of the child molesters have been not sentenced to any prison or correctional terms and thus they roam freely in the society which is a danger for the society. 20 percent of the pedophiles do actually receive the punishment for the crime they have committed.

What is Pedophilia?

Pedophilia is also known as sexual orientation which is similarly to the heterosexuality and homosexuality. It is similar to the preference of the individuals. The males who have liked women and gay people who love women or men only are similar to pedophiles the only difference between the individuals above and pedophiles include the that individuals have been targeting the society for the immature or children who haven't reached their puberty stage (Hall & Hall, 2007).

The pedophiles usually do not have choice and the eventual result of molesting children is to serve in the prison for more than a year or years. the pedophilic nature of the people usually destroy them and mainly includes that the friendships of the individuals and relationships are usually finished and the societal standing is also decreased due to behavior. The behavior of the individuals who is a pedophilic is a most serious and gravest of all the crimes committed by the individuals.
