Personal Statement

Social work is something that has always caught my attention especially in situations where I helped people to overcome difficulties and obstacles. Having spent several years in the field of social care, I have decided to develop my profession in this field as I feel satisfied by helping people with disadvantages. Along with providing care to people from all walks of life, social workers also need to cooperate with other organizations such as teachers, hospital staff, and the police. This shows that effective organizational and communication skills are necessary for this role. The work carried out by social workers is quite pressurizing due to which a person entering this profession should be able to handle pressure and be remain committed to serving people. Since I believe that I possess all the required skills needed to adopt this profession, I am applying for an MSW degree.

The reason I am pursuing an MSW degree is because I wish to get rid of the shortfalls I have in order to enter this field. This degree will provide me with knowledge that is vital in ensuring that I manage to provide the best services to the people I believe deserve the best services. It will also help me to develop my skills in managing such people and will educate me on things currently unknown to me. With an MSE degree, my career objectives would be to begin from down and work my up to the top of an organization involved in providing social services to the disadvantaged. The reason I want to move from a lower position is so that I can interact with the people directly and learn my way through so that I may have all the experience needed in order to excel in my career.

Although I am pursuing an MSW degree, I believe that even the BSW degree that I completed gave me a lot of knowledge and experience related to the field I am pursuing. The BSW course was intensive and included several hands on activities in which I got an opportunity to interact with social workers and assist them in their daily tasks. This also gave me firsthand experience of caring for people who were in need. The field education included a few weeks training followed by the placement on duties that were continuously rotated.
