Photography

Photography is a term which is derived from some Greek word such as photos and light and which further means to draw something or someone. The word photography was first developed and utilized by one of the scientists Sir John F.W. Herschel during the year 1839. He stated that photography is one of the methods by which the images are recorded by 5the action of light and related radiation on the sensitive materials. A great personality Alhazen (Ibn Al-Haytham), who was also, a great authority, invented the first pinhole camera which is also famously known as the camera Obscura, Latin for the dark room. He was also one of the scholars who explained as to why images are upside down.

Camera Obscura is basically a dark and close space in shape of a box which has a hole on one side of it. The hole has to be small in size as compared to the size of the box so that the camera can work properly. The camera works according to the optical laws (Brenda, 2010, pp 71)

The light transforms through a small hole and creates an image on the wall of the box. The image which is created is mirrored and created upside down. Today it can be mentioned that the camera Obscura was considered to be one of the prototypes of the modern photo cameras. The methods and techniques which were used yesterday seem to be useless in the modern age but there are many people who still utilize the old techniques for various artistic reasons and fun.

In the year 1827, Joseph Nicephore Niepce was the first person to make and develop the first photographic image with the help of camera Obscura. Before Niepce invention, many people only used the camera Obscura for viewing and for the purpose of drawing. However they didn't use it for photography. The way that the Niepce invented and developed the camera was also referred to as the prototypes for much modern photography. They enabled the light to draw the picture. The photos of Niepce and its invention required eight hours of light exposure to create images which then faded as soon as they were created.
