Chapter 1: Introduction

Where people continually expand their capacity to create result they truly desire, where new and expansive pattern of thinking are nurtured, where collective aspiration is set free, and where people are continually learning how to learn together.

Background to Change That Exit in today's Economy

We stayed in same groups as we were in for first stage of this unit. The aim of this learning organisation was to meet and fulfil development needs of all group members. The development needs were ones identified in our action plan in assignment 1. The way we were going to develop needs of group was by creating and measuring different activities.

This report will reflect on how researcher performed in group and also what skills researcher has developed during OD tasks.

Strengths and Weaknesses of Bureaucratic Organisations

The main demerit of bureaucratic organizations includes lack of innovation. All processes and tasks are so much fixed that innovation process is almost eliminated in bureaucratic organizations. Employees get demotivated because of lesser employee participation and involvement. HR can't be utilized in fullest manner by optimizing creativity which is prime disadvantage in bureaucratic structure of organizations.

Advantages include increased control and monitoring of upper level management. The success of organizations depends upon wise decisions of top management. If top management is good, then results can be favourable and if top management is not good then it can result in disaster.

Alternative Forms of Organisational Development

Our group consisted of nearly 30 members so we had to have the consensus of how we were going to allocate our time to help each other to develop or improve their skills. First of all we had to find out how we were going to achieve this and secondly what tasks/activities organisation were going to carry out.

Once our group had started to settle down and habits started to set in, things were difficult to change this was because we were only going to be together for the few weeks. In our group there were several members who turned up late time and time again. This had the negative affect on group because we kept getting delayed each week. As time was short we were loosing valuable time. These members were consistently 20 to 30 minutes late.

Managing change is an important factor in the daily organisation such as M & S, Next, Phones 4U. Different factors are changing in Organisations on the month-to-month basis. Change needs to be done in the way it wouldn't cause problems to organisation.
