Overview

Introduction

Mountain View Primary is the government school located in Victoria's east. Majority of students include Australian born children and minority are Aboriginal children. The paper consists of the five lesson plans and their planning process that is needed to be implemented by the teachers and school management. Referring to scenario 3, the Mountain View Primary School will present this planning of five subject areas in order to overcome the current issue among Aboriginal students under Australian Curriculum guidelines.

The Australian Curriculum has always set out core information, knowledge, skills, understanding and capabilities for every single Australian student. The curriculum gives a description of the learning entitlement of their students as a base for their future growth, development and learning. It is also to ensure they actively participate in the community of Australia. This makes it clear that the Australian curriculum emphasizes on learning while progressing through school as that is the foundation for standard of education set for all Australian students (ACARA, 2011).

Diversity is the variety in experiences and views that rise from different races, cultures, religions, physical and psychological abilities, ages, heritage, genders, sexual orientations, gender identities and other such characteristics. Diversity is the otherness or those specific human characteristics that set us apart from those who are our own and outside to the communities or group we belong to, yet are, found in other people and groups. Considering the scenario and learning objective of Australian curriculum, the paper talks about five lesson plans, flowchart and integrated planning matrix which provide clear idea about what is needed to teach, learning objectives and assessment methods of measuring learning outcomes (Popham , 1999).

Scenario

The key issues in this situation are that the children are not accommodating and dealing well with diversity and differences, they are resorting to bullying those who are diverse and there is competition amongst them, which is not healthy anymore. The diversity present needs to be, embraced and worked upon as in such multi dimensional and multi cultural environments; specific need have to be, addressed. The year level that I have chosen is from 5 to 7 grade students.

The broad dimensions of diversity eventually affect the performance levels, motivation levels, success of students and their interactions with others as in the case of Indigenous students. The students of this school are generally accepting of each other's differences however; recently the issue of disallowing commercial and recreational fishing in certain areas of a local lake on the basis of cultural differences, majority of the students are not getting along with their Aboriginal students (Bliss, 2012).

Lesson Planning

For this, the teachers should be, trained to increase their Cultural Intelligence .This is having the ability to interact effectively and efficiently in various cultures and with those of diverse backgrounds. Having the capability and skill where the individual is capable of adapting to different cultures and has extensive knowledge of cultures, is mindful and tolerant, picks up on cultural cues and reacts accordingly and has a range of behavioural skills ...
