Plastic Surgery

Introduction

Plastic surgery is a surgical specialty that was initially associated with the aesthetic and modification of the appearance. This may include the repair of congenital or acquired mutilations of the body, but also from cosmetic surgery without medical necessity. The official name of the specialty is however, "plastic, reconstructive and hand surgery," and is the subject of much more than just cosmetic surgery.

The first plastic surgery was carried out in 1816 in England, used by the British surgeon Joseph Constantine Carpue. He reconstructed a nose using a pedicled flap by applying a method used in India for centuries. The development of plastic surgery got a big boost from the need to restore mutilations of people, who had suffered during the First World War. This war surgery was developed into a separate specialization.

To the group of patients who have undergone reconstructive surgery, include a wide variety of patients. It could include birth defects, accidents, but also people who by cancer or another disease is part of their body. Congenital abnormalities such as cleft lip (cleft palate) , congenital hand and foot abnormalities, but very large moles (called congenital nevi) or vascular abnormalities such as wine stains and hemangiomas are often found from the birth.

Thesis Statement

Discussion

The main risks and complications of plastic surgery are the rejection of the implants, sensory disturbances, abnormal skin color, tissue necrosis, asymmetry, abnormal healing, thrombosis, bleeding, pain and allergic reactions to anesthetic. Regardless of the fact that it works in a sterile space, it can lead to infection. The possibility of occurrence of an infection is very small, typically less than 1%. Occasionally, it leads to bleeding or abnormal wound healing.

Usually, the consequences of these complications can be corrected by one or more additional operations. Exceptionally, it may cause injury or even death may occur. No one can totally eliminate these risks, as it is important to take care of the risks and take precautions. It is also important that one understand and accept that there is a possibility of complications.

Before undergoing an intervention, it is very important to learn well about the issue and its consequences. The doctor is the best source of information as they offer a comprehensive explanation of the overall risks of an intervention, but in particular it is he who can assess the individual risk (Stone, pp. 35-51).

Anesthesia is an indispensable tool used for cosmetic surgery. A surgery is not trivial; anesthesia requires great attention, both from the physician, anesthesiologist, and patient. Consultation with the physician anesthetist before any cosmetic surgery must take place sufficiently in advance of your surgery.

No surgery is without risks. The patient's general condition, age, lifestyle and other factors influence the risks relating to a transaction. Generally, serious complications occur only rarely during anesthesia, including critically ill patients, or emergency surgery.
