Pollution

Introduction

Pollution is referred to the addition of contamination in the natural environment, and this contamination results in harmful affects to nature. Pollution consists of various forms such as energy or chemical particles, noise, light or heat etc. the components of pollution that are added into the natural environment are referred to pollutants, and these pollutants could be foreign element, heat or energy, or contaminants that occurs naturally (Harrison, 2001).

Pollution is the part of every culture, and it starts from ancient times when fire was created for first time. The evidence of pollutant in early history is confirmed by the soot that is found on the roof of ancient caves. Rapid increase was also found in air pollution when forging metals was done on masses.

Discussion

Contamination in natural environment is referred as pollution and these contaminations leads to discomfort and harm to the living things that are present in that environment. Pollutants are the elements that cause pollution and they mostly are foreign components, and it can be natural elements sometimes. These pollutants are added to the environment in excess amount which leads to pollution. There are various types of pollution that affects the natural environment. Primary types of pollution are: water pollution; air pollution; noise pollution; land pollution; and light pollution (Hill, 2004). Pollution is generally caused by human activities, and sometimes nature produces pollution for environment. Two major types air and water pollution is discussed in this paper.

Air pollution

Air pollution is referred to the chemical and biological contaminants that are added into air which can harm to humans and other living creatures. Air pollution can be of different forms, for instance it could be in form of gases, droplets, or it could be in solid form. In addition to this air pollution could be natural or manmade. Air pollution is found to be harmful for both environment and health. Air pollution is found to have serious impact on human health and major effects include: affect on inflammatory and respiratory systems, and adverse effects are cancer and heart disease. The environmental effect of air pollution is related to the damages to animals, plants and environment. It results in reduction of crop yield and biodiversity. There are primary and secondary source of air pollution. Primary source is referred to the process with which pollutants are released. For instance, volcanic ash is the primary source (Vallero, 2007). Secondary source is referred to the formation of pollutant with reaction of primary source, and ground level ozone is the appropriate example that creates photochemical smog.

Tobacco smoke is considered to be primary source of air pollution as it is produced directly through process of smoking. The smoke created with tobacco consists of carbon monoxide and benzene and these are pollutants of air pollution. One small cigarette produces huge amount of these pollutants. Depending on the manner of smoking it adds these pollutants (7 milligram to 23 milligram) to the air. It is also identified by researcher under control examination that the ...
