Introduction
Life is beautiful full of joy. So, in order to increase the pleasure that life extends to us we indulge in different activities and habits. One of the most common habits of people is to read books and novels. In our lives, during the period of academic life and sometimes just for the sake of pleasure we read a lot of books. Books provide us with handful of knowledge and lend a hand to us in increase the language related benefits. There are some books that leave a long lasting impression on us. The aim and objective of this paper is also to talk about two novels or short stories. In the following part of the report a discussion is undertaken to discuss the facet of love and death. For this purpose the stories that are selected include “The Wheel of Love” and “The Four Summers” by Joyce Carol Oates.
About the Author
For almost three decades, Oates has continually produced highly acclaimed fiction, poetry, drama, and essays. She has been the recipient of many awards, including a Guggenheim Fellowship and the National Book Award. Nearly every story in The Wheel of Love has won an award. Oates received the O. Henry Award for “In the Region of Ice,” which went on to win an Academy Award as a short film. Sensitivity to women's issues has been a hallmark in Oates's writing. Many of her stories lend themselves to feminist readings. In Understanding Joyce Carol Oates, Greg Johnson wrote that the story “Where Are You Going? Where Have You Been?” is a description of “a young and sexually attractive girl's enslavement within a conventional, male-dominated sexual relationship.” Other stories in this collection, specifically “You,” “Four Summers,” “Accomplished Desires,” “Demons,” and “Shame,” also portray a cycle of young women repeating the previous generation of women's servitude to men.
