Preparing for biology

Introduction

Biology deals with the study of living things/organisms including their growth, structure, origin, function, evolution, and division. A biologist is a candidate who specializes in this field. Biology encloses the cellular basis of living creatures, the genetic basis for inheritance in humans and metabolism of energy that includes the activities of life. It also includes the biology of plants, microorganisms, and animals, and it gathers the structural and functional relationships that underlie their everyday activities. Biology also involves the study of evolutionary relationships among organisms and how diverse are they on earth.

An overview of environmental, biomedical or life sciences:

Life sciences: is a vast field which encompasses all areas of science that includes the systematic study of a living organism such as human beings, plants and animals. Medicine and biology are the two subsections of life sciences. Life science is also interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary in its approach and study. Life scientists are primarily involved in research and development and work in the laboratories.

Biomedical science: is a division of life sciences that deals with the study of life processes in order to develop a perception of health and ideas for analysing, diagnosing and treatment of diseases. Enclosed subjects are similar to the pre-clinical works of a medical degree, with the accumulation of molecular biology, the evaluation and screening of new drugs and the relationship between health and environment.

Environmental science: deals with the study of the environment (surrounding) in chemical, biological and physical context. It is also a higher study of pollution, energy conservation, climatic changes, plastic menace, biodiversity and global warming. Environmental science is a combination of both social science and natural science. An environmentalist is a person who specializes in this field. His primary concern is with the problems of environment and the effects of the unrestrained pollution on the earth's environment.

Discussion

Everything considered to be alive is living things. The first thing, which arises in mind, is what makes a person alive? All living things exhibit five characteristics in combination which keeps them alive. In nature, Organism possesses exclusive features that help biologist to identify them as a living entity rather than non living entity. Living things include animals and plants, and they are thought to be visible, it also includes an invisible world of bacterial species. On a basic level, we consider the life to be ordered, and an organism has very complex organization.

Organization: All living things are organized into cells; Cells are known to be the basic structural and functional unit of life. On an average, a human being is composed of 100 trillion cells. The units of life begin on the minute level bigger than the molecules known as cells; it encloses bags of many suspended substances conserved inside a greasy membrane known as plasma membrane, which allows a huge degree of control over entry and exit of substances. The cells can be either:

Unicellular: is a single celled organisms ...
