Introduction

This paper focuses on the pre-school aged children of Los Angeles County. This paper aims to assess the population characteristics of pre-schooled children living in Los Angeles County. There are many disparities that exist among the ethnic and racial population in La County (Yee et al, pp. 23).

In Los Angeles County, population of pre-school aged children lives in substandard living conditions. A large majority of the population consists of single parent children. These children have inadequate economic and social support. The opportunities available for their education are also limited.

In Los Angeles County, it is a challenge to assess health services and public health infrastructure. Los Angeles Country is home to approximately 9.6 Million residents. The county is one of the most ethnically diverse counties in the United States.

A majority of pre-school aged children in Los Angeles County live in vulnerable situations. Approximately one-third of children living in the country is poor. The poverty level of the families of these children is below the federal poverty level. Another health risk is the unavailability of insurance. Therefore, children do not have adequate access to healthcare services.

Asthma is a very common problem confronted by children in Los Angeles County. Research has shown that approximately 14% of children living in urban areas of Los Angeles County are likely to suffer from asthma. Asthma is considered one of the greatest risk factors for this group of children. It is because can negatively influence the quality of life (Zima, pp.6).

Asthma in children is also likely to influence their school education. Children suffering from asthma are more likely to miss school than other groups.
