Abstract

The paper identifies the prevalence of the drug abuse among anesthetist by reviewing the research article, therefore, it can be said that the focus is of this paper is on the secondary research. To collect the information, the research took into account the inclusion criteria where the articles pertaining to the drug addiction among healthcare workers and anesthetics were prioritized. It is found that the healthcare workers are prone towards the drug abuse due to their nature of job. Out of the healthcare workers, the anesthetists have been found to have the highest drug addiction rate as they directly deal with the anesthetic drugs.

We would like to thank all who have suffered the long hardships of our endeavor to obtain our goals and aspirations to become Certified Register Nurse Anesthetist. Our journey has been long and cumbersome, however at the same time, worth the pain and time we have put our families and friends through. Many of us have given a lot to be privileged enough to be in the position we are in and feel that no amount of thanks will be able to show the gratitude we have for them.

With all the sacrifices there has be a great deal of positives. We have made and will continue to keep in touch with the precious friends and colleagues we have made throughout this journey. We would like to thank our professors for their time and patience in instructing us on the principles of anesthesia, which is the foundation for which we practice. We would like to give a special thanks to the clinical sites and preceptors that gave us the practical knowledge on how to apply our foundation. Without this application, the art of anesthesia would not have been possible to achieve.

Introduction

Substance abuse of controlled substances is a problem for the healthcare community. It costs a substantial amount of money for employers in time lost, law suits, and rehab. It takes its toll on the abuser and destroys their families. However, one of the biggest concerns is the effect that it has on the patients that are being cared for by healthcare professionals under the influence of drugs. This poses a public health problem for the community and it is one of the hardest to detect because many signs and symptoms are not noticed till it is too late.
