ABSTRACT
Introduction: The research is aims at understanding the Prevention and Intervention Programs for Delinquent Youth.
Significance: The key significance of this topic is that the number of the young offender has been increasing that requires prevention intervention strategies from the end of the community and facilities.
Key Articles Studied: the two key articles studied were by Farrington & Welsh (2007) and Howell & Lipsey (2004). According to Farrington & Welsh (2007) a number of governmental reports and researches reveal that criminality among the adult community is largely based on certain criminal inclinations in their childhood ages. According to Howell & Lipsey (2004), secondary prevention strategies and programs concentrate on the behavioral conduct of children in order to reduce the risk of youth violence targeting the families of children that are at high risk of youth violence.
The key research questions:
What types of programs do professional youth workers see to be successful in averting juveniles from delinquent and anti-social behaviors?
Questions:
Do years of experience of the professional youth worker affect their perception of a successful prevention program?
Does the social class of the professional youth worker affect their perception of a successful prevention program?
Does the ethnicity of the professional youth worker affect their perception of a successful prevention program?
Does gender affect the perception of a successful prevention program?
Research Method: A qualitative study was employed that consisted of 25 adult professional youth care from the four institutions dealing with delinquent and anti-social juveniles within San Bernardino County. Thirty six percent of the participants were experienced, whereas 60% were male and 40% were female. Interview method was adopted for this study.
Findings: It was found that to 80%, personal characteristics and engagement of the young workers is imperative for a successful prevention and intervention program. The race and gender matter to the minors during the counseling services and group sessions where the minors feel closer to same sex counselors and individuals from their own ethnicities. 20% of the effectiveness of any programs depends on how well the participants experienced the services and what they have observed as the key factors of program success. All that is required are the people who are willing to help the minors with selflessly and with a true willingness.
Conclusion: it can be deducted that the participants are successfully facilitating the rehab work for the young offenders. However, more inclusion is required from the part of youth.
