Introduction

American History by Alan Brinkley provides the students and Instructors with a comprehensive account of the American past in which No single approach or theme predominates. From its first edition, this text has included a scrupulous account of American political and diplomatic history. The book explores areas of history such as social, cultural, urban, racial and ethnic history, more history of the West and South, environmental history, and the history of women and gender. In addition, American history has not evolved in a vacuum, but as part of a larger global world.

In this paper, the two images from the first chapter of the boot, “The meeting of cultures,” have been selected and analyzed. The two images selected are of Queen Elizabeth I and John Calvin. The reason of selecting these images is because these images show two of the great and influential leaders of the world. These images show of their personalities in a very authentic way.

Queen Elizabeth I

Elizabeth I, often referred to as, the Virgin Queen, was Queen of England and Ireland from 17 November of 1558 until the day of her death. Elizabeth was the fifth and last monarch of the Tudor dynasty. She inherited the throne after the death of her sister, Queen Mary I.

This image is the portrait of Queen Elizabeth I. She is elegantly dressed in typical attire for a queen or princess of that era. She is wearing jewelery - necklaces, bracelets and rings. Her posture shows her elegance and her attire demonstrates the rich culture she has been raised in. her face expression shows seriousness yet the entire picture also shows the soft side of the queen.
