Specific Challenges in making Direct Measurements

To identify the specific challenges in making direct measurements, the author selected the field of earth science. Following are the challenges discussed and also the indirect form of measures to overcome these challenges is highlighted;

Recognizing the Signal within the Natural Variability

The first challenge that faced by the scientists is the crux of the global warming conundrum. This is because of the steady increase in the global warming, which accompanied with climate change that expanded in last 150 years simply because of the expression of natural variability and also the human being also played a significant role in increasing greenhouse gas effect. Natural variability is considered to be of great significance on both spatial and temporal scales. Therefore, the scientist analyzed the challenge through organic sediment.

Defining the Mass Flux through the energy balance in Natural System

The second challenge required a complete quantitative understanding and knowledge of geology, chemistry, physics and biology of the natural systems. To overcome this challenge, the scientist introduced the nitrogen and biochemical cycles to understand the larger natural systems in terms of global climate change and its function. As the name of the cycle defines its purpose, which implies complex and interconnected process that involved soil, air, water and sometimes human pathways also included. To give better understanding, fig 1 is shared in the appendix.

Proxies Identification for Ecosystem Health or Biodiversity

A significant challenge that faced by the modern environmental scientists is to identify biological, chemical and geological parameters that might indicate biodiversity or health ecosystem. To overcome this challenge, the scientists introduced a remote monitoring ecosystem of health whose purpose is to analyze earthquake problem through LIDAR (Vegetation Canopy light detection and ranging) who take images from the aircraft and discovered young thrust fault scraps (Zoback, 2001).

Influential tools or techniques in the physical sciences

Following are the different influential techniques and tools used in physical science;

Image Analysis Application

The first tool selected by the author in physical science is Image Analysis Application. The image pro software basically provides different sort of advanced tools that help the physical researcher to better image acquisition while stitching and tiling images altogether. Similarly, the software automatically detect different objects in the image based on the color or the intensity value of the images, also help in automatically measuring the area in terms of radius and also provides around more than 50 different measurements that needed to accomplish the work.

The image-pro software allowed the researcher to collect the different single images and transform the image sequence from a variety of different cameras. Similarly, the software also create manual measurements, thus, the user defined measurement option also exist. For instance, user defined circumference, diameter, and location of the object all these can be manually added to the software (Media Cybernetics, 2012).
