Introduction

Psychiatrists are the physicians whose main area of practice is related to the problems of mental sickness. They are authaorised to conduct a wide variety of treatments and may also write prescriptions of the required medicines. Psychiatrists are allowed to work in public sector, private sector or they can also work at hospitals, clinics, universities etc. Psychiatric treatment requires to have built in trust between patient and doctor, thus the core duties and responsibilities of psychiatrist include:

First concer of doctor should be to take care of the patient.

Encourage and prevent the health of patients.

Provide a good standard of care and practice by updating knowledge and skills professionally, recognizing and working within the limits of capability, and consult with other collegues for sake of patients' health and care.

Respect patients and treat them individually.

Be polite with patients if they go out of control.

Build a partnership with patients, listen to their concerns and respond them actively, provide patients with the needed information i.e. they way it is understood by them,.

Respect the rights of patients in order to reach to the decision pertaining to treatment and crae.

Provide patients with sufficient support and help in order to improve themselves and help them maintain their health.

Be honest with paitents and openly interact with them but keep up the respect and integrity evel within the limits.

Immediately take actions if you and consultants think that patients' health is in danger.

Avoid discrimination between patients and collegues.

Do not abuse patient's trust and public's trust in the profession of Psychology.

Design treatment procedures and programs and keep them upto date.

Conduct psychotherapy sessions as per required.

Prescribe medicines such as mental drugs or physical therapies.

Supervise electrotherapy treatments personally.

Average Salary of Psychiatrists

It is calculated by US Government Bureau of Labor Statistics. The Average salary depends on the location and setting in which Psychiatrists work. Psychiatrists receive the owest income of $31.53 per hour and highest pay recorded per hour is $78.68. It has been reported that there are some individuals who earn more than $80.00 per hour. The average salary of a Psychiatrist is recorded to be $163,660 (Lower Earners) and $180,000 (Higher Earners) per anum. Those who are working in remote and rural areas are exoected to receiver lower income as compare to thos who are working in busy metropolitan cities. According to a research, there are about 5440 psychiatrists employed in physical offices , 3450 are working in clinics and 3000 are working in clinics that are run by private companies or government in US (Moores. J., 2012).

Training

Psychiatrist are allowed to practice only when they are liscenesed medical professionals. They can prescribe medicines and apply a variety of Psyciatric techniques like electropsyciatric therapy, or psychoanalysis. Its training initiates in undergraduate school, and a bachalor's degree is required to take admission in a medical school.
