Final Project: Psychopathology from a Clinical Perspective

Introduction

Tom hanks, our client, and a character in the movie cast away gives life to Chick Noland, who travels worldwide resolving productivity problems at FedEx depots, gets exacerbated by psychological problems. The first condition is evidenced by anorexia nervosa, a disorder that its main feature is the weight loss caused abnormally shaped by the same person. After watching the character of a client, I thought that a psychological analysis from the social point of view was enough, but the story is far more extensive. From the point of view of clinical psychology, we see the protagonist mired in constant stress (worried, desperate and nervous), traditional psychologists would label as the Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) according to the DSM IV - TR and not a depressive disorder as there is always the illusion of achieving their goals. On the Social Psychology there are many issues that play like values (perseverance and responsibility), self-esteem, effort, self-confidence and friendship.

The DSM-IV requires that found in our client six nine symptoms reflecting inattention or six of nine symptoms reflecting hyperactivity or impulsivity. These symptoms must be observed in two or more different environments (e.g. at home and in leisure activities). Severity of symptoms can vary in intensity depending on the environment, or in time. The DSM-IV identifies three diagnostic possibilities:

Disorder attention deficit / hyperactivity disorder type where inattention predominates when the person does not meet the criteria for inattention (A1);

Disorder attention deficit / hyperactivity disorder type where hyperactivity and impulsivity predominate when the person does not meet the criteria for hyperactivity and impulsivity (A2);

Disorder attention deficit / hyperactivity disorder mixed type, when the person meets all the criteria (A1 and A2).

The diagnosis has shown that treatment adherence plays a major role in influencing treatment response for mental health illness. For instance, patients who are compliant with treatment report an improvement in quality of life factors. In particular, medication adherence and attending sessions have been shown to improve a client's ability to function physically, psychologically, occupationally, and interpersonally.

Discussion

Long ago I wanted to see this movie, not so much for the title that has a taste of self-help, but by the protagonist that always captivates with his charisma and joy. I've seen it three times, because it serves for reflection on how one ...
