Introduction

Every citizen looks up to their government at local, provincial and federal levels and expect their political leaders and government to play an important role in order to find effective and efficient solutions that are practical, workable and affordable. It is their basic job to resolve every type of public or community issues at hand. Government is responsible for making decisions that whether there is a need to form policy for resolving a certain issue or not. The public policies are formed with a basic motive of resolving community issues and are related to society values, regulations and law for the good and well being of different individuals, families and community. This is where the job and role of voluntary organizations come in that are dedicated towards betterment of community and try to influence actions of the government that is required for achievement of their organization's mission.

Problem Statement

One such common problem faced by our society is that of increasing crime and criminal activities. Research suggests that crime has taken over the entire society and is one of the most common causes behind breaking of civil wallet as per the latest figures from California. Additionally there are prominent signs of civic collapse evident from those children who are fearful of going to school and people are scared to their work place in the night time or use public places or parks. As per the statement of Liz Glazier a US Attorney of New York city, “I need to help us build a community that's resistant to crime so I don't have to come back and back and back and back.” It is quite clear from her statement that there is a never ending chain of criminals, people are being sent to jail and then back on the streets so that others can take their place. The main motivation for development of the crime public policy plan is to prevent and reduce the crime rate for the betterment of society and also to influence the actions the Government as their support and final decision is extremely important for actual implementation in society (Calhoun, 1998).

Methodology

The basic methodology that has been used for defining and understanding the problem of increasing crime has come from analysis of different research reports and literature which suggests that crime prevention strategies and policies can actually help in reducing the crime rate, provide safer community for children and older people. The methodology for developing a public policy plan for reducing crime rate will involve doing voluntary work by developing relevant organization and implementing crime prevention strategies by advocating for it creating a lobby. It is also important to develop credibility and reputation of the organization by displaying adequate knowledge and expertise in crime. Another important step is to have continuous communication in the media that to be targeted towards influential people such as opinion leaders and decision makers.
