This paper presents a critique of research article, “The Female -Male Disparity in Obesity Prevalence among Black American Young Adults: Contributions of Socio-Demographic Characteristics of the Family Childhood”, written by Whitney R Robinson, Penny Gordon-Larsen, Jay S Kaufman, Chirayath Suchindran, and June Stevens. The article published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition in year 2009. Researchers have carefully addressed the impact of racial and cultural differences on the obesity prevalence in male and female.

Researchers have adopted quantitative approach in the research paper. A wide reference list and citation from external sources indicate the extensiveness of the research.

The article clearly stated the inclusions and exclusions that it had made for the purpose of clear and concise construction and establishment of the final end result. For instance, the article made clear distinctions of black and white respondents involved in the study. Main objective of the research is to examine the differences in obesity prevalence among men and women. Data was obtained from the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health cohort study that examines the impact of sex disparity, family environment, and socio-demographic characteristics of family on the obesity prevalence.

Researchers limited the research respondents to non-Hispanic blacks and whites people who were born in United States. However, the article does not present any literature review and highlight implications of past researches that add on to the study. Researcher adopted Quantitative Descriptive Statistics approach for the examination of the data along with inferential Chi-square test to test the independence between variables.
