Qualitative Assessment

Introduction

After increase in terrorism and other safety issues, there are various security measures at Airports. The increase in security system was to avoid any mishap, terrorist activities, with in airport or in aircraft. Strict security systems were to ensure safety of the passengers, but increased amount of security resulted in creating problems for the passengers. Most of the passengers consider it painful and they have many complaints against the ways of checking. In order to identify these complaints and opinions of different passengers, a survey was conducted, which highlight many similar and contrasting opinions of the passengers. These opinions are analyzed and discussed under different “overarching themes”, which provide complete information from the data gathered from the survey (Bryant & Charmaz, 2007, p.353; Charmaz, 2006). In this survey, opinions of five participants were recorded, which provide complete detail about the problems faced by passengers. Themes also assist in “bringing together findings” about research (Gilbert, 2009, p.141)

Discussion

Common and Contrasting Themes

There are many common and contrasting themes observed from the survey “transcripts” of five participants (Noaks & Wincup 2004, 129). These participants shared their experiences of airport security and checking and they are mentioned at the end of every “master theme” (Willig 2008, p.62).

Passengers are treated with Contempt and Humiliation

One common theme that shared by most of the passengers is that they are treated with contempt and humiliation during checking. Security guards keep pushing passengers and there is no dignity or respect to these people. Many passengers consider this as worse behaviour that may result in creating problems for them to travel by air.
