Qualities of Leaders

Introduction

This assignment is based on a discussion of five key qualities that is a source of distinguishing a leader from n ordinary human being. The assignment puts into special focus, the servant leadership role model as it brings a commitment of the leader to God's orders. It also justifies how a leader develops leadership in other people's soul. Te five skills of leadership, to be discussed here, will revolve around growth, servant leader, role model, my relationship with God, commitment to making disciples, and knowing my Bible more.

Growth

Leadership is the process of influencing people and directing them to accomplish their collective goals. Growth is synonymous with what a leader pursues to achieve. This we say, because for a leader, personal as well as collective (growth of his team on the whole) growth is very essential in order to fulfill his responsibilities. Growth, in leadership sense, is achieved through being one's “own” leader (Patzia, pp. 109-230). This means checking one's own actions, engaging others to meet similar objectives, meeting shared results along with appreciating and compelling to “do more”, building coalition among followers and building transformer systems.

Growth of the entire team is important to a leader. As God cares for His people, so does a leader, for his followers. This means a growth in their personal and skillful careers, which does not necessarily have to overlap each other. Growth is achieved through commitment to improve and learn from mistakes. This growth may not be visible in tangible forms very soon, but is can always be indicated through the character and attitude of the entire team. A relation with God inculcates into knowing one's self and inner traits; something that is very important to achieving growth and spirituality for leaders (Marshall, pp. 165 ). For achieving such a growth, it is important that leaders:

Are aware of their emotions. By this we mean that they can recognize their own emotions and to determine their impact on others.

Are aware of their perceptions and their assumptions. This refers to the ability leader to understand the impact of his perceptions about his own conception of reality.

Are aware of the values ??and principles that underlie the choices they make and their actions. Values ??are what one person considers valid, relevant and important, while the principles are the standards, guidelines or the collective rules that we use to guide our behavior (Marshall, pp. 165).

Servant Leaders

Many leadership models illustrate a hierarchy from the top down. The positions of power and authority are at the top of the organization. This style emphasizes collaboration, trust, empathy and the ethical use of power. The individual leader is first a servant who consciously decides to lead to better serve others and not for its own power. This begins with the natural tendency to serve others with the intent to serve first. So this conscious choice can motivate a person to aspire to lead.
