Assignment Solution

For this assignment first the data using descriptive statistics will be evaluated and then use normal distribution to evaluate the data. It is important to assess that the observations obtained are not accidental will yield a consistent result every time they are recorded.

The observations of new treatment were noted as follows:

3, 5, 6, 6, 8, 8, 9, 9, 9, 10, 11, 45

The statistics of new treatment were reported as follows:

µ2 = 10.75 and s2 = 11.02

The old treatment statistic were noted to be µ2 = 9.6 and s1 = 3.2.

Analyzing Using Descriptive Statistics

In order to assess the data we will first carry out exploratory statistic on the data and search for missing and extreme values as they can cause the average and standard deviation to inflate or deflate (Weiss & Weiss, 2012). The median of the above data was found to be 8.5 and mode as 9 while the range is 42. A distribution which is spread on a range of 42 is doubtful of having median of 8.5 and mode of 9.

Following is the histogram of the above data:

Figure 1: Histogram of Treatment Delay

Figure 2: Scatter Plot of Histogram of Treatment Delay

As we can observe in the histogram, these exist one outlier (x=45) which is skewing the distribution and analysis. After removing this outlier (X=45) our statistics are as below:

N = 11

µ3 = 7.636 and s3 = 2.377

It can be observed that µ3 < µ2 and s3 < s2, which means that if the observation of 45 is accidental, our new treatment is less effective than the old treatment.

Analyzing Using Normal Distribution

In the observations, there is always a possibility of a value occurring by chance. In order to evaluate whether the observation of 45 months delay in complication is possible we will convert this value ...
