Introduction

Alkenes is a chemical compound which is unsaturated belongs to the hydrocarbon family, which are the compounds which contain hydrogen and carbon both. The two of them are as:

Ethane C2 H4

Propane C3 H6

We can work on any formula on any of them which is Cn H2n. The table remains restricted to only these first two. Presence of isomers behind it is a major reason of it which intensely affect the names.

Structural Isomerism

Every Alkenes which have got four, or more than four carbon atoms in themselves show structural isomerism. What it actually mean is that it has two or two plus structural formulas which can be extracted of each of the molecular formulas. A very good and substantial example can be off with C4H8, it is actually not very difficult to come up with the tisomers which is three structural oriented.

Geometric orcis-trans isomerism

The carbon-carbon doubled bond do not give access to rotation about it. What it actually mean is that it there is always a chance to get CH3 groups. These groups can be on both sides of the molecule. The teo options are that either the group is on one side of the molecule or on the other side. They are also called cis but-2-ene (this is a situation when the groups are located on same side) or trans-but-2-ene (a situation when they are located at the opposite sides).

Physical Properties

One of the major points to be discussed id that the boiling points of each of the Alkenes is extremely similar to the one as of the Alkenes having carbon atoms of the same number.
