CHAPTER 01: INTRODUCTION

Outline of the study

The thesis is based on the topic “Recruitment in Insurance Industry”. The fits chapter of the thesis will provide an introduction to the topic which will also highlight the purpose and significance of the study. The second chapter will give an overview of the previous studies and relevant literatures which have been carried out in the specific field. The third chapter of the thesis will cover the methodology for the study. The analysis of findings and discussion will be presented in the fourth chapter. The fifth chapter will conclude the study, providing implications and useful recommendations for further research (Hacker, 1999, pp 145)

Background of the study

The term recruitment is referred to as the process of attracting, screening and selecting qualified candidates. The recruitment process is the primary function of human resource. It is the function which is preceding the selection. With the help of recruitment, the organizations are able to create a pool of prospective employees so that the management and human resource department can hire the right candidates for the right job. The primary objective of recruitment is to facilitate the selection process (Shackleton, 1993, pp 79)

With the growing business and increase in demand for talented staff, many organizations are hiring qualified and experienced people especially in the insurance companies. Each and every organization has designed their own rules and regulations of recruitment. The insurance companies today are hiring qualified and educated employees in order to make their business grow. The recruitment process in the insurance industry is emerging tremendously in United Kingdom and the global market. The recruiters of the insurance industry have the tendency to employ skilled and talented employees (Neuman, 2005, pp 135)

Time scale

Time is one of the most significant factors when conducting a research study. One needs time to allow diagnose the adequate problem before the final decisions made about the appropriate strategies and their implementation. Time should be kept flexible to control and monitor the unforeseen factors. Time scales in the research study should be appropriate, realistic and achievable (Johnson, 1991, pp 38)
