Effective and accurate recruitment would ensure quality human resource that would aid an organisation to attain its objectives. The aim and objective of this paper is also to undertake discussion about the best practices of recruitment and selection. This paper aims to discuss these two aspects in the perspective of a specific scenario of Starbucks.

The scenario that is chosen to discuss the aspect of recruitment and selection is to hire sales personnel for Starbucks. In this paper, techniques related to recruitment and selection are discussed to hire new sales person for the retail outlet of Starbucks in Singapore.

Improved and better organizational outcomes can be achieved as a result of the better recruitment and selection strategies. When the recruitment and selection of the candidates are done in an effective way then there remains high possibility that the organisation is to hire and retain employees who are efficient and satisfied (Sheila and Paul, 2009, 1). Before delving in the discussion about the best practices about the recruitment and selection it is vital to understand the basic concepts of recruitment and selection.

Recruitment

Recruitment is a process in which identification is done of all the potential candidates. This identification of the potential candidates can be done both within and outside the organisation. Once these candidates are identified the process of evaluating their profile begins for the purpose of future employment. The selection process begins after the suitable candidates are identified. This process includes collection, measure and evaluation of the information related to the qualifications of candidates for particular positions (Sheila and Paul, 2009, 1).

According to Torrington, Hall, Taylor, and Atkinson (2009) the process of recruitment can bets be described as a process through which an organisation makes an attempt to source or attract such people from whom the selection can be done. Strategies that are adopted for better recruitment process aims to create a better pool of candidates and to portray the organisation as the first choice of candidates as an employer (Torrington, Hall, Taylor, and Atkinson, 2009, 14).
