Learning about Self

The Postgraduate Diploma in Business Enterprise (PGDipBE) was based on providing the overall aspect of the business enterprise. I took this course as a challenge to build the skills required to develop and implement a business plan of my own venture. It provided me to learn various aspects of the enterprise, which includes business planning, budgeting, setting goals and objectives, marketing, human resource management, operation management, information technology and information systems. It helped in identifying what are the first and foremost steps that are necessary for an individual to start with any business idea. People need to be more creative and innovative in order to outline a business plan for their venture.

The course also helped me in assessing the skills and qualities that are required for an individual to run a business. It helped me in identifying what strategies are required to in each step of the process. The course also helped me to develop a business plan, identifying the need behind the project, designing the goals and objectives of the venture for which plan is outlined (Brown, 2010). It not only developed a skill of making business plan, but it also provided a broader perspective of how to tackle with the risk associated with the startups.

One of the most important aspects that I learned from the course of business enterprise is that it allows me to identify what type of investors can be targeted, how they are to be targeted, and what benefits need to be included for them to influence them to invest in our project. Furthermore, it also taught that the entrepreneur needs to be brave enough to take risks in pursuing his/her goals. However, those risks must be a calculated one (Robinson, Heitmann & Dieke, 2011). There are certain circumstances in the project where entrepreneurs have to take bold steps, such as while coming up with a new idea, the entrepreneurs have to take the first mover advantage, which can be supported through promoting the products or services in an efficient and creative way.

The course of PGDipBE also helped me to learn all the core business area of the organization, which includes human resource management, marketing, financing, and operations. It allowed me to have an insight about how an integrated strategy can be designed to cover all the core business areas. This includes the number of employees and workers to be hired while starting a venture, designing marketing mix strategies for the product or service that is being provided to the targeted customers, and budgeting the entire expenditures for the initial years of the commencement of the business.
